Ohm & Dos – Necklaces

Happy post-thanksgiving day everyone! I’m excited to share my last 2 new necklaces of the year.

I’ve been working on non-jewelry art these last few weeks (you’ll get a sneak peak in my next and FINAL newsletter of 2016!). So these two new necklaces were my way of briefly taking a break from art and going back to my roots with jewelry.

I will share a lot more of what’s happened over the last 4 months in my next blog post (lots of lessons learned!), but for the purpose of revealing the context of these two necklaces, I will say that these months have clarified why color is such a core aspect of my work.

The second half of 2016 has been an unusually emotional time for me. It’s been full of pivotal moments at macro levels (the world) and micro levels (my work and life!). Maybe like you too, I experienced HUGE ups and downs. Lots of overwhelm and learning to make peace with what I can do. Through it all, I came to realize how art and jewelry making with certain colors are able to sooth me and calm me down almost like a good meditation.

So, this is how the first necklace came to be 🙂

Ohm – Necklace

It had been a very busy and stressful week. When the weekend arrived I was looking for something to help me get to a peaceful feeling-place. I had the impulse of creating something soft. Something natural, organic. Something that felt “zen” somehow. I was clearly drawn to earth colors (gold, nature greens, grays and so forth). But it wasn’t until I came across the ceramic works of STUDIO TWOCAN that I found exactly the kind of energy that I wanted.

Just looking at these vases gave me the exact feeling I wanted to experience.

I absolutely ADORE the organic appearance of the mixing-style of these calming colors. I picked nature-green, black and white as my neutrals/organic base; and this awesome (vibrant) soft pink, which adds not just the ‘zen-feeling’ I was going after, but make it a happy necklace. No matter how I feel inside, with this necklace on, everything changes.

The necklace itself has a custom-made brass base that is very thin (and light!), but provide a solid support for the clay that’s on it.

The necklace is light and adjustable. And the surfaces are soft and smooth like a baby 🙂

Dos – Necklace

The DOS necklace came to me by accident. It was another weekend of looking to relax my emotions after the presidential-election cycle. I found myself navigating images on the web, looking for strong but positive colors. I felt weak and I wanted strength. I felt a little numb and blah… I wanted something that made me feel joy, bold and vibrant.

When I came across this image, I knew I found it!

The DOS necklace is all about bold, vibrant, happy, positive colors of fall and winter. It’s also about mixing and matching textures. Textures make something interesting. It creates detail and fun.

I called it DOS because I couldn’t decide if I wanted to make a pendant, or a necklace. So, I created bothsort of 🙂

Yes. This necklace comes with two chains that are super easy to exchange in just a few seconds.

And it has two very similar, but COMPLETELY DIFFERENT sides! This is particularly interesting when you’re wearing it as a pendant.
