Melula – My new obsession and inspiration!

I’m SO EXCITED to reveal the latest addition of earrings to our “tiny-jewelry” collection.

 

Before I do, I have to introduce you to the inspiration behind today’s jewelry piece. My absolute new FAVORITE design company:

“MELULA COPENHAGEN: A child-oriented design fashion brand from Copenhagen, Denmark”.

Melula makes the most beautiful shoes I’ve seen in a while. But that’s not the only reason they became my inspiration.

 

Let me give you a bit of context:

I was browsing the web, having a break, when I suddenly came across these AMAZING pair of shoes.

• Disclosure: I only wear flat shoes (no heels! I’ve tried and tried over the years, but my feet don’t like heels). So, finding comfortable but beautiful flats of any kind, is always in my mind.

When I came across these MELULA shoes I fell in love instantly. I liked them so much that I decided to buy them immediately. (I’m NOT a compulsive shopper! and this reaction is in fact quite out of character for me!).  I even thought “if they’re more expensive than I hope, they’ll be an extra special birthday present to myself. Perfect!”.

 

So, I went to their website and loved everything I saw. . . except that I couldn’t find the section for “WOMEN SHOES”anywhere … that’s when I saw it: These gorgeous shoes were only being designed for children! (sad face.. 🙁 ).

 

Within a minute of reading more, I got over myself.

I knew that this small Scandinavian company is very special.

The whole premise is build around kids, and designing/creating shoes that are as active, creative and playful as they are.

Melula was created because their founders couldn’t find children’s shoes that had both, a childlike and playful look, but with the unmistakable Scandinavian design feel of simplicity.

 

In their own words:

We derive our inspiration from the creative processes of children and how they express themselves while playing.

The shoes can be worn when your little ones need to look stylish, but also just for everyday use. We are continually developing new prints and styles, so that Melula can continue to be a brand that dictates trends instead of following them.

 

I guess I’m still very much still a little girl at heart!

I just love the fact that these shoes are truly pieces of ART turned into a pragmatic product.

 

And it gets better! The founders, Louise Møllermark and Søren Hougesen, chose to focus heavily on the design and the production of their collections. They partner only with manufacturers that have full transparency and work within sound ethical guidelines, fair working conditions, and are in compliance with environmental standards.  

What else can we ask for?!

 

So, since I couldn’t buy myself my dream shoes, I decided to create a “tiny shoe-earring” version.

 

The earrings are 100% handmade using only PVC clay and a small razor blade. After creating a somewhat inspired “pattern” on clay, I deconstructed the shoe design into its separate “pieces”, by looking at as many pictures I could.  Each shoe-earring is only 2cm long! (that is 0.75 of an inch!). It’s really tiny and super cute.

I had so much fun making them, that after finishing them I couldn’t stop!

I decided to continue the bliss by creating an actual photoshoot that resembles the ORIGINAL photos of the shoe that inspired my earrings.

To continue with the fun, I next decided to incorporate my Barbie in the shoot. I’ve been looking for excuses to play with her (since I brought her back from my parents home in January). The shoe-earrings just happen to have the perfect proportions for my Barbie. Also, this is not just any Barbie. This is my very FIRST Barbie ever!

She did a great job. Don’t you think?

 

And just in case you wonder how they look on a person, there you go. I think they look adorable 🙂

 

If I could only, somehow convince MELULA to make an adult version of their shoes, I would be in heaven 🙂
