Infusing MEANING into Art

Happy Tuesday beautiful,

I love creating beautiful things. I do. But much more so, for me it’s all about being able to create something that is born from a very “true” place. A place that means something, a place that evoques something. This is where inspiration manifests at its best. At least for me 🙂

Today’s custom jewelry set of Necklace & Earrings, called MERCI, is a recent custom set commissioned by a group of friends and co-workers who wanted to not only celebrate a very special teammate, but let her know in the process just how much she’s appreciated.

What informs my design? What decides how it’s going to look, what shape, size and detail it will have?

These were my questions to them:

  • Her favorite colors: In this case it was red, black and white.
  • Her jewelry personality: Large, beautiful, bold.
  • What feelings do they want to evoke: Gratitude, appreciation
  • What is one of the gifts being appreciated: Her amazing skills as a communicator and team player.
  • What is the context of this commission: This was a gift from her team and co-workers, who all work at the headquarters of Comcast in Philadelphia.

Here is how this information translated into the 5 individual beads for this piece:

The picture below gives you an idea about the size of this piece on the chest.

As big as it may look, it’s incredibly light and comfortable! The beads are pretty flat and lay on easily on the body.

There are all kinds of gorgeous jewelry out there.  But this….. “meaning”, is what makes my pieces a “VeruDesigns” creation and not something else.

If there is any takeaway from this post, (besides you hopefully enjoying the art!), it’s the idea that there is no better gift we can give someone, then letting them know that they are “seen”. That we truly see their awesome uniqueness, that we see their light, that they matter, and that it is appreciated beyond words.  And you don’t always need a custom jewelry gift to express that. All it takes is expressing, saying it.

Now back to you: If you’re an artist, what is your take on this? If not, how do you express meaning to your loved ones?

Stay well, stay happy and stay healthy. I’ll be in touch in a month!
