I’ve been so looking forward to sharing this amazing find with you!

Before we get started, let me clarify that I have no affiliation nor relationship with this small company. I just LOVE what they do, who they are, and why they do what they do, and have been very inspired by their creations.  So, today’s post is not just about sharing the love, but my way of crediting the artisans that have been inspiring several of my most recent jewelry creations.

The Baba Tree is a small african company that designs and handcrafts beautiful decorative yet fully functional baskets with the most amazing shapes, color combinations, patterns, sizes and uses that I’ve ever seen. The company is headquartered in beautiful Bolgatanga, Ghana and you can see their magical baskets anytime by visiting their website here.

After finding them by pure chance, I found myself browsing their website for hours! The very next day, I placed my very first order, and after several days I received my very own #handmade baskets, designed and handwoved by Mr. Adapore all the way in Bolgatanga, Ghana.

The baskets are even more beautiful in person than in pictures and are gorgeously handcrafted by local artisans like Mr. Adapore.  He is one of many local artisans who are part of the Baba Tree family, a company that was founded by Gregory MacCarthy, a Canadian citizen who has made made Bolgatanga his home. The Baba Tree is the e-commerce entrepreneural answer that Mr. McCarthy came up with for creating meaningful income opportunities for artists like Mr. Adapore AND elevating the community’s quality of life, while blessing us all with their beautiful creations!

So, to me, the Baba Tree does it all: It creates BEAUTIFUL things that are also functional and rich with cultural craftsmanship, while giving artists a means for making a living, and becoming a conduit for creating a community in parts of the world where it’s particularly hard to be a working artist.  This hits me particularly hard, not just because I am an artist, but I come from a beautiful country that has a large indigenous population of under-appreciated artisans. To me, The Baba Tree is an inspiration for making a difference in a community and the world at large.

So. After this brief introduction, let me start with today first jewelry piece! The ANAMMA NECKLACE

main1

This fall/winter necklace was directly inspired by a beautiful round basket, designed and crafted by Mrs. Anamma Alambirego. 🙂

I chose this basket primarily because of the beautiful color combination and patterns. Perfect for fall and winter, yet with enough of a splash of color to give it the “wow” factor. The “handwoven clay” rests on a very thin brass base that is fully covered, creating a solid body and shape. I’ve tried this necklace on a whole arrange of tops, and it works almost every time. Just beautiful.

Enjoy our interpretation of this beautiful woman’s creation!

Details: The necklace is quite light (and comfortable!). It has a bit of an extension brass chain that gives it enough flexibility to fit most women.

Our second reveal is the AGAMBIRE SET of necklace and bracelet 🙂

main-b

This set was custom made for a very special client and friend! The inspiration came from Alambirigo Agambire’s pot basket!

I absolutely LOVE the color combination of the basket, which I used as the primary inspiration for designing the pattern for the necklace and bracelet. This is a much smaller piece (compared to the prior necklace), but the colors make it impossible to miss.
