Architectural Romance – New Collection!

Happy Tuesday everyone!

After having been working for a little over a month on our floral jewelry (which you can see here if you missed it!), I was ready to make something completely different. And by different, I mean different in every way.

I craved simplicity. I wanted to make something colorful of course (in a spring and summer kind of way), yet interesting and unpredictable. Definitely modern (with clean straight lines), contrasting, yet easy to wear with most anything.

As it happens so often, I found my inspiration in one of my favorites sources: Architecture. More specifically, architectural details.

There has always been a line-of-thought within architecture, that derives its style (and magnificence!) from embracing colors and texture to create an architectural statement. The structures themselves are simple (clean straight walls, steps, rails) but they become an unpredictable labyrinth of stories through the use of powerful colors and textures.

I hope you enjoy my take on this paradigm of design, applied to wearable sculpture pieces. Enjoy our 1-minute intro-video for this collection below 🙂

Abstract Pendant # 1

The “texture party” pendant, is exactly that: A party of very different textures in happy and contrasting colors, but put together in random ways. To soften its sharp modernness, I finished it by using a very “organic” cord that closes in the back with an easy magnet-based closure. Pure fun!

Abstract Pendant # 2

The Zig-Zag-Boom pendant started out as a free-experimentation of playing with specific colors (that I’ve been recently very drawn to), cut in different size triangles, attached together at odd angles and on different layers/levels. I used a little bit of texture too, but color is the main driver of this design. The handmade cord was very intentionally made in a coral-red kind of color to add the last bit of contrast. I liked how it came together.

Abstract Pendant # 3

The polyshapes pendant started with the intention of creating a center piece derived from a 5-sided polygon. But it looked too perfect and symmetric, taking away all its unpredictability. So I began cutting off some of its sides to create an out-of-balance that still would be fun to look at. The colors are of course one of my favorite aspects of this pendant. I adore this combination.

Abstract Pendant # 4

I’ve always loved this combination of colors (red, white and blue, that is). I know they also happen to be quite patriotic colors here in the US, but I loved this combo even before I moved to the States. This pendant was my attempt at working with these 3 colors, while adding a few soft pastels that would bring more kindness to is look and feel.

Abstract Pendant # 5

The lovely contrast pendant was an exercise in contrast. Working with neon yellow in particular, is hard to do without it looking to “loud” and unapproachable (at least it is hard for me). This pendant began with the cord. I started with the intention of creating a center piece that would completely contrast the yellow-neon cord, without looking “too loud”, or “off”. I tried several other combinations. The soft pink, navy blue, and pastel-green was my favorite. The end result is still growing on me.

Abstract Pendant # 6

The “pastel fiesta” pendant is my personal favorite of the bunch. I just love it in every way.

It doesn’t mean that it IS the nicest, but anyone who knows me personally, knows that these colors are my favorite. This was just a party to make. A party, with my favorite colors. I hope you like it too 🙂
